We chose to do the Arctic Cordillera because we assumed that nobody else would want it, since it’s a barren landscape. There is basically nothing there but we’ll tell you about it anyways!
The landform region is the Innuitian Mountains. The Innuitian Mountains were formed in the Mesozoic era when the North American plate moved northwards. The Innuitian Mountains are very barren (No vegetation) and are covered in permanent snow and ice. There is no development in this Landform region because it would be too expensive and risky because there are not many people who would want to live in this region and there are many animals in this region so it would destroy many endangered species that are inhabitants to this region.
Rocks and Minerals
The rocks in the Arctic cordillera are made up mostly of Sedimentary rock but some and Igneous and Metamorphic. The mining in the arctic cordillera is very small and they mine non-metallic minerals like coal. The folding that occurred in the arctic cordillera
Vegetation and Soils
The vegetation region is the Tundra. The natural vegetation in the Tundra is Small shrubs, Mosses, Lichens, Stunted trees (those are trees smaller than normal sized), and Coniferous trees (like evergreens for example). The reason the shrubs are small is because they have to grow closer to the ground so they can soak up as much heat as possible. The length of the growing season is 0 days so there is no farming possible.
The climate rgion is the Arctic. The climate there is not very fun... It is long -40 degrees C winters and short 0 degrees C winters.
The precipitation in this region is less than 200ml.
The total population in the arctic cordillera is 1304 and the population density from 2001 is 0.56 . The GDP is $0.012 billion. People mainly go to the arctic cordillera for the hunting tourisim and the national parks. The major urban areas there are Pond inlet, Clyde river, and Broughton Island.
Animals in the Arctic
There are some different animals in the arctic. There are not many because it is a very harsh climate. There are Moose and Caribou, Wolverines and Wolves, Arctic Foxes, and Musk oxs.
